Day

1

- Arrival in Lisbon
- The Portuguese capital has been for the last 900 years, the peninsular Sephardic city that probably most concentrated Jewish history over the centuries. The characteristic Alfama district which incorporated one of the three existing Jewish Quarters still maintains the same route of the old winding streets.
A walking tour through the city centre will comprise all these highlights
- Overnight at hotel in Lisbon

Day

2

- Breakfast at hotel

- Transfer to Belem

- In the morning we will head into the Belem, one of the most historical and lavish districts of Lisbon, to see its Tower and the imposing Monastery of the Jeronimos
- Transfer to Tomar via Obidos. Possibly the only Portuguese medieval Synagogue still standing and built between 1430- 1460, the synagogue of Tomar shows the importance that the Jewish community had in the city since the 14th century. It was designated a National Monument in 1921 and the Luso-Hebraic Museum was installed there

- Overnight at hotel in Tomar

Day

3

- Overnight at hotel in Porto

Day

4

- Breakfast at hotel
- Oporto is a truly fascinating city: it originally contained several Jewish Quarters; our walking town will highlight its main square, the train station, the central market, the Llelo Bookstore, etc.
- Transfer to Guimaraes. For some, this is regarded as the birthplace of Portugal; an intact Old Town awaits, together with the majestic Palace of Braganca.
- Transfer to Trancoso
- Overnight at hotel in Trancoso

Day

5

- Breakfast at hotel
- Trancoso's Jewish legacy still lives in the written documents, local traditions and some buildings and has contributed to build the Isaac Cardoso's Jewish Cultural Center and Bandarra House.
- Transfer to Guarda. Visit the area of the former and once dynamic Jewish Quarter
- Transfer to Belmonte. Belmonte has now a mystical meaning in international Sephardic history as it was the only place in the Iberian Peninsula where, for centuries, a community-based organizational identity remained without an overall assimilation by Christianity, also recognized by the Grand Rabbinate of Israel.
- Overnight at hotel in Belmonte

A meeting with the Belmonte Jewish community might be arranged

Day

- Transfer to Castelo de Vide. This is one of the most beautiful towns in Portugal; in Castelo de Vide we will visit the Museum of the former Synagogue, discovered by chance during some excavations.
